We love heading out to the North Wash area, west of Canyonlands National Park. This is a special place where the canyons get skinnier and deeper and there is no one around. This year we had the pleasure of taking a nice couple out to the Poison Springs canyon complex, where slot canyons abound. We make our way cross-country - what seems like an aimless approach across mostly flat terrain to the head of our canyon, which we don't see until we're at the first rappel. We rig ropes and descend our first drop, 140 feet down into the narrow depths of Constrychnine Canyon (constrict + strychnine). What better place to propose to your loved one! After all, once we pull the ropes at the first rappel there's no easy escaping!
We had the joy of facilitating a wonderful proposal at the bottom of this canyon. Despite the name, this canyon is a spectacular place to pop the question, and she said yes! (did she really have a choice!?) A huge congrats to Sean and Emily on their engagement! Thank you for letting us be a part of this special day, and many well wishes from all of us at Desert Highlights to the two of you on your journey ahead!
